The article 100 Years in Cinema makes me realize the necessity to educate our young people in order for them to have the proper understanding of the effects of mass media especially on the things that they see in cinemas. As young people there is the tendency for us to imitate what we see in television without being aware that what we see in television is not the entire reality but only part of it. This phenomenon can prevent only if the young people are educated about the effects and influence of cinema in their life. The young need proper education in order for them to become media literate, in doing so they will become critical on the things that they see in the cinema. There is the need to exert more effort in educating the young people. The young people must know their rights in life as well as the importance of moral values in their development.
Ethics in Advertising

Advertisement is everywhere. It influences me concretely in different aspects of my life. This is my realization in the article “Ethics in Advertising”. It is an effective means in influencing people. Advertisement affects our daily life especially in shaping our attitudes and behavior without being aware of it. We can never escape from the influence of advertisement. The advertisements persuade us and provide us with the information that they want to rely on us. Advertisement can make good what is really bad and vice versa. Indeed it affects the morality of men and their perspective in life, in looking at themselves and to the reality, and their values and principles in life.

The article poses a challenge to me: I must use every means that the new age offers to spread the word of God. This is age is where the modern means of social communications rise. They have a very significant role in the progress of the society, form there, all sorts of information and messages pass through and go to all sorts of people. The media provides another means of spreading the words of God, and at the same time, a cause of division among the people of God, problems in the society and other side-effects. Pornography and Violence

Pornography is like a poisonous drug that attacks the weaknesses of human a person that causes violence and chaos in the society. Thus, it is a good initiative on the part of our Church leaders to confront these problems of pornography and violence in the communication media. However, pornography attacks not only the old people of society but also the young people as well as the children. Pornography is very attractive especially to the young people of our generation. The mass media provides us with a lot of pornographic materials which are accessible to all even to the young people even without the consent of their parents. As a result the people of today especially the young are being exposed to this kind of reality wherein violence and pornographic materials are being shown to us by the mass media. This is what the mass media offers us, this is what we usually see in television, magazines, newspapers, books and the like. One of the clear effects of too much exposure to pornographic materials and violence is sin. It is because the young people will have the tendency to imitate what they have seen in the television and read in the newspapers having the impression that it is normal, for the reason that this is what they usually see. The young people of today will think that what media offers them is good and normal, thus it urges them to do the same without being ware that it is already evil. Thus, the issue on pornography and violence in the mass media will create chaos and problem not only to the life of each individual who are involved but also to the society in general. This is the effect of the improper use of the mass media.
Communio Et Progressio

All means of communications should lead us to unity and brotherhood as one family in Christ, in order for us to continue his work of salvation as one. This is my realization upon reflecting on “Communio Et Progressio”. I realized that this must be our attitude in using the modern means of social communication. Man, by nature, is a social animal and thus, it is only through communications that we will become united. This “being united” will lead us to progress later on. Since we consider social means of social communication as a gift from God, we must utilize it in accordance with God’s will. The improper use of it will create discrepancy and division among the people of God. It is our duty and responsibility then as people of God to use these modern means of social communication properly. As people of God, we need to make sure that modern means of social communication will foster truth and unity as well as progress in our community. The social means of modern communication must become a means of fulfilling Church’s mission and not as a hindrance. Through the use of mass media constant communication and dialogue among Church’s leaders and its members is now possible in a convenient way and it creates unity among them. The computers and any other means of social communication can use by the Church to inform her believers about the Church doctrines and beliefs as well as to explain their stand with regard to certain issues that our present world offers. In doing so, it will create unity and progress in the Church as well as to the State. The Church people especially its leaders must use this modern inventions in propagating and in explaining the message of God in a more convenient way. All of these are possible if we only recognized that these modern inventions are gift from God and thus we must use it for the good of God’s Church and its people not for our own desire and satisfactions.

God communicates to us in different ways and as Christians I do believe that it is our obligation to spread the Good News of God each one of us had received. Modern means of social communication especially the media is a gift from God. Thus it is a great privilege for us to have easy access to some modern technology that enables us share to other people in different places the Good News of God through the help of modern means of social communication especially the media and thus it is a precious gift from God. I believe that the modern technologies that we are enjoying especially the media are a gift from God. God gave us these modern inventions to use as a means to propagate His Good News to human kind and not to utilize it for our own desire and satisfaction. Further, it is good that the Church recognized the role of these modern inventions especially the media in the work of the Church, especially in its apostolate. The Church became aware that the media can be used in a fruitful way and is a great help in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.

Reading the document Inter Mirifica helps me see technology in another perspective and with this that I became aware again of my own responsibility towards the proper use of modern means of communication. Being in the technological world I cannot deny the fact that I am fortunate to have an access to this modern means of communication. I have the opportunity to use these technologies in my own convenience and desire. However, as I enjoy the pleasure of using modern inventions sometimes I forgot my responsibility as a Christian and as a good citizen when confronted with these modern kinds of technologies. This article reminds me that I must use any modern means of communication in accordance with the teachings of the Church. Further, I realize the need of the Church to use these modern means of communication precisely because many people especially the youth of today are using these modern means of communication especially the computers. Being in the modern world, majority of the people in our present time are computer literate. The people of today have easy access now to use such modern inventions. We are fond of using these modern inventions especially the computers without being aware that we are already becoming dependent to these kinds of technologies, we are, instead of mastering them, such technologies are the one controlling us. It is because these modern inventions provide us with the things that we need in an instant, without exerting much effort all we have to do is to sit in front of our computers. We become misguided with regard to the proper use of these computers, instead of using these computers sometimes it is computers that is using us and dictating us. These computers are the one controlling us and we cannot get rid to these modern inventions. Thus, it is a good initiative of the Church to remind individuals through this article about their responsibilities in using these modern means of communication. It is good that the Church started to encourage people to use this modern means of communication in propagating the good news of Christ and in encouraging the people to become a good Christian in the midst of these modern inventions.
